Perkins 5000 Series
Published on September 30th, 2026
The 5000 Series is Perkins' largest and most powerful electronic engine range, designed exclusively for power generation. It covers generator sets from 750 to 2,500 kVA for applications where losing power is not an option: hospitals, data centres and industry. As the official Perkins distributor in Spain, we supply it and service it.
What is the Perkins 5000 Series
Four diesel engines with electronic fuel injection, built from the ground up for high-power generator sets, both standby and prime. Perkins designed them around three priorities:
- Fast load response. They meet G3 load acceptance requirements. In a standby set, what matters is how quickly the engine takes on the site load when the grid goes down.
- High power in a small footprint. High power density, useful in plant rooms and sites where every square metre counts.
- Lower operating cost. Optimised fuel and oil consumption, long service intervals and remote monitoring.
5000 Series models
| Model | Configuration | Displacement |
|---|---|---|
| 5006 | Inline 6-cylinder | 23 litres |
| 5008 | Inline 8-cylinder | 30 litres |
| 5012 | V12 | 46 litres |
| 5016 | V16 | 61 litres |
Across the range, the series covers generator sets from 750 to 2,500 kVA standby (up to 2,250 kVA prime). Output per model depends on the generator set configuration: we will confirm it for your application.
2600 Series or 5000 Series: which one do you need?
The dividing line is the size of the generator set. Below 625 kVA, the reference engine is the Perkins 2606. Above that, the 5000 Series takes over.
5000 Series
- Generator sets from 750 to 2,500 kVA
- Four models, from inline 6 to V16
- Hospitals, data centres, heavy industry
- Remote monitoring
Perkins 2606
- Generator sets from 350 to 625 kVA
- One inline 6-cylinder engine
- Standby, prime and rental
- Lighter and easier to transport
What we need to recommend a model
At this power level, choosing the right engine depends on the installation. With these details we can tell you which model fits:
- The generator set output, in kVA.
- Whether it will run as standby or prime power.
- The site's start-up and load acceptance requirements.
- The available space and the destination country.
- Whether it is a new generator set or a repower of an existing one.
5000 Series maintenance
The inline 6 and 8-cylinder models can run up to 750 hours or 2 years before the oil and primary fuel filters need changing. The V12 and V16, up to 500 hours or 2 years. Those are long intervals, but on a standby set the limit usually comes from time, not hours: the engine barely runs, yet the oil, the fuel and the batteries still age.
Generator sets this size usually protect critical sites, so maintenance cannot depend on someone remembering it. In Spain, we maintain and repair generator sets of any brand fitted with a Perkins engine, with Perkins-trained technicians, official diagnostic tools and genuine Perkins parts. We also offer periodic maintenance contracts, so service visits happen on schedule.
